Frankly speaking, the Chad national team is not resplendent with high-key results and on the contrary cuts a meager figure on the international scene. It is controlled by the Fédération Tchadienne de Football which was founded in 1962. In 1988, the team joined FIFA and CAF.
The team has qualified neither for the FIFA World Cup competitions nor for the Africa Cup of Nations. Moreover, it didn’t even enter the qualifying for these two major tournaments until 1990s. It only had more or less decent results in minor competitions such as CEMAC Cup and UDEAC Championship being a runner-up for three times in these games.
Nevertheless, Chad produced such talented footballers as Japhet N’Doram and Nabatingue Toko. N’Doram is renowned as one of the best African strikers and Toko established himself as a legend of Paris Saint-Germain with whom he won the French Cup trophy two years in a row, in 1982 and 1983.
Most recently, in the summer 2012, the Chad national team held the highest 112th position in FIFA ranking in the team’s history, but sustained a slight comedown to the 116th place in the table in September 2012.
