The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines national team represents this island state in the association football. It is ruled by the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation which was founded in 1979 and became a FIFA and CONCACAF member only in 1988.
A minnow in the international football, the Vincy Heat, as it nicknamed in the Caribbean region, has never met much success in any major tournament. The team has never passed through the World Cup qualifiers, and didn’t even enter the tournament between 1930 and 1990. However, it only cut more or less good figure in the Caribbean Cup. In 1995, Saint Vincent sparked furor after breaking into the Caribbean Cup final and eventually finishing a runner-up, thus securing itself a place in the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup Round 1.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines enjoyed their biggest high-scoring 11-0 win over Montserrat in May 1995. The team suffered their greatest defeat with the same scoreline to Mexico in December 1992.
The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines team is currently ranked 136th in the FIFA World ranking.
