Alberto Lopo Garcia is a Spanish defender who started his career as a professional footballer at RCD Espanyol from Barcelona in 1999.
His career at Espanyol was quite unfortunate in its beginning until the defender achieved real progress by the season 2001/02 when he missed only five league games and since then was an undisputed starter for five seasons gaining 178 league appearances with 9 goals by the end of the season 2005/06.
Lopo signed for Deportivo de la Coruña on July 1, 2006 unwilling to sign an extension with Espanyol. Regardless of the fact that he was enjoying interest from much bigger clubs the footballer decided to follow the career of Joan Capdevilla. Despite a series of minor injuries he was an integral part of club’s defense right until the year 2011 when ‘Depor’ faced relegation.
Having been involved in 151 La Liga games for the Galicians he made a strong decision to move on with Getafe as the next destination in his career. Being appointed a starting-eleven player at the beginning he lost this privilege by the end of the season 2011/12.
While at Espanyol, at the very start of his Lopo’s professional career he had a reputation as a quality but inadmissibly rough defender. His booking statistics impresses with the number of yellow and red cards. He was given 14 yellow cards with one red in the season 2002/03, 15 yellows and three reds in 2003/04 and 21 yellow cards and two red ones between 2004 and 2006. However in recent years the number somewhat decreased.
As for his international career he was capped by the national team only once but never made an appearance.
