Burak was born in German city Cologne. He got involved in football at the age of 4. During his childhood the future footballer took part in numerous competitions between local and regional teams.
The player started his professional career in 2008, when he joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He made 36 appearances with the club, scoring 12 goals. In 2011 Kaplan had the brief loan spell at Greuther Furth FC, where he managed to make 6 starts scoring 3 times on the way.
On 21 May 2011 Burak was bought by Beşiktaş, where he now plays in number 21 shirt. The transfer fee was in the region of 650,000 Euro. The player made his first appearance with his new team during the game versus Samsunspor, where he came off the bench on 59th minute.
On 11 December 2008 Kaplan featured in the game against Hertha BSC, which happened to be his first appearance at the international arena. Burak came off the bench in the second half replacing Daniel Schwaab and scored a goal on his debut. The game finished with 2-2 draw.
In 2013 Kaplan had loan spells with SV Babelsberg 03 and Fethiyespor.
