Casto Espinosa Barriga (aka simply Casto) is a goalkeeper playing for Real Betis.
The first club he played for was Mérida. There he spent four years with only 7 games in the third division. In 2003 the footballer moved to Logroñés where he spent only one season before joining Albacete Ballompié in the Segunda. During the season 2005/06 he made only one appearance.
In 2006 Real Betis bought the keeper who was to play the third after Pedro Contreras and Toni Doblas. But since a Portuguese goalie Ricardo was signed Casto was demoted to the reserves and even the selling of Contreras didn’t help him to win promotion. However Ricardo as well as all other Casto’s rivals for the position in the starting line-up soon received injuries. This provided a good opportunity for the goalkeeper to shine. Thus he made his first appearance for Real Betis in a La Liga game against Almería on December 16, 2007.
From March till April of 2008 Casro finally managed to overcome Ricardo in his chase after a starting eleven position providing Real Betis with their first three consecutive victories in over two years recording wins over such sides as Osasuna, Barcelona and Real Zaragoza.
At the very start of the season 2008/09 Casto again won the stiff competition with Ricardo for a place in the starting line-up having become an undisputed starter and losing that privilege halfway through the campaign however. Since 2007 Casto played 66 games for the Verdiblancos in total.
