Daniel Aranzubia Aguado is a Spanish footballer currently playing for Atletico de Madrid as a goalkeeper.
He was born in 1979 in Logroño, Spain. A product of Athletic de Bilbao’s youth system, Daniel Aranzubia went on with the first team. He made his debut in in a 1–3 loss against Real Sociedad.
Aranzubia substituted Iñaki Lafuente during two seasons and then he played as a starter. The season 2005/06 he and his teammate Lafuente appeared in practically in the same number of games, but the situation worsened in the following season, which he spent on the bench.
In June 2008 Aranzubia moved to Deportivo de La Coruña. He helped his new team to win the UEFA Intertoto Cup and became a regular starter.
He missed the beginning of the 2010/11 season because of the injury and finished the season as a starter. In February 2011 he netted a header from the corner in the very end of the match that ensured 1-1 draw against UD Almería.
After about 200 appearances for Deportivo the goalkeeper was offered a move to Atletico Madrid in the summer 2013.
He was a part of the national team, when they won the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. On 5 June 2004 Aranzubia made one appearance for Spain in a friendly game against Andorra.
Spain finished runner-up at the 2000 Olympic Games when he started in both finals.
