Diego López Rodríguez is a goalkeeper born in 1981 in Paradela, Spain. Currently he plays for Real Madrid. He began his playing career at his hometown team CD Lugo and in 2000 he moved to Real Madrid C team. Diego was loaned to AD Alcorcón for the 2001/02 season and after that he joined Real Madrid B team. He helped them to promote to Segunda División. The following two seasons he was Iker Casillas’ backup and appeared in two La Liga games.
In the summer 2007, Diego López a €6m-deal with Villarreal CF. During the first season he became the first-choice and made 20 appearances. In the 2008/09 season he helped the team to end the league on the fifth position. In total he appeared in 171 matches until 2012, when he moved to Sevilla FC. In 2013 the giants Real Madrid called Diego up as a replacement for injured Iker Casillas.
López represented the Spain national team in August 2009, replacing Reina in a 3-2 friendly win against Macedonia.
