Franco Daniel Jara was born in 1988 in Villa María, Argentina. In 2008, Franco Jara began his senior playing career at Arsenal de Sarandí and made his first division debut in a 0-1 loss to Argentinos Juniors in May 2008.
In January 2010, Jara moved to Portugal signing a contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica for a fee of €5.5 million. After a season there he was sent on loan to a Spanish side Granada CF, playing in La Liga and in July 2012 he moved to San Lorenzo de Almagro on another loan spell. In the season 2013/2014 Jara was loaned to Estudiantes.
In January 2010, Jara was called up to the Argentina national team for the first time. That was a 3-2 win against Costa Rica.
