A Brazilian footballer João Alves de Assis Silva, aka Jô, plays as a striker for Atlético Mineiro. Silva was born on 20 March 1987.
Jô’s father, a former professional footballer, was a huge influence on him and very soon the boy made up his mind to follow into his dad’s footsteps. In 2000, he was selected for the youth squad of Corinthians. In 2003, the striker was ready to perform at a higher level and grabbed his first pro contract with the club. In 2003, he got his first award becoming the champion of the Campeonato Paulista. In 2005, the club was crowned the winner of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Altogether the player appeared in 81 matches scoring 17 goals.
In 2006, the striker moved to Russia, where he defended CSKA. Jô spent almost 2 years with the club, as CSKA won the 2006 Russian Premier League. The same year was lined with gaining the Russian Cup and Russian Super Cup. The footballer was also awarded with the title of the team’s top scorer.
In 2008, a contract with Manchester City was signed. In 2009, Jô was loaned out by Everton. He made 27 appearances for the temporary team netting 5 times. In 2010, another loan at Galatasaray followed. The striker appeared 13 times for the Turkish side. After returning to Manchester, the footballer made only rare appearances and waited for a chance to change the club.
In 2011, he was scouted by Internacional. The move turned to be a success, as the player became the squad’s important element assisting the club to win the 2011 Recopa Sudamericana and the 2012 Campeonato Gaúcho. In 2012, a new contract was penned with Atlético Mineiro.
In 2008, Jô made 7 appearances for the Brazil U-23 squad. He’s also the member of the Brazil full side. His national team finished in the third position at the 2008 Olympic Games.
