A Portuguese footballer João Miguel Coimbra Aurélio plays as a midfielder for Nacional. He was born on 17 August 1988 in Beja.
His junior career started in 2004 at the academy of Despertar. In 2005, he passed the preliminary tests and entered the youth department of Vitória Guimarães, where he spent the last two years of his youth career.
In the summer 2007, João penned his first professional contract with Penalva. The debut season turned to be very fortunate for the footballer, as the head coach gave him an opportunity to perform as the team’s starter. Over the course of the season, the midfielder featured in 33 matches and netted 5 goals.
In 2008, Aurélio enjoyed a meteoric rise moving to the Portuguese top-flight division side Nacional. In his debut season with the club, João made 10 league appearances and scored a terrific goal in a 2-1 win over C.F. Os Belenenses. He got off to a flying start of the 2009/10 season scoring in the opener against the powerhouse Sporting CP and then against Olhanense.
In 2009, Aurélio got his first cap for the Portugal U-21 team. He scored 1 goal in 12 matches during the period from 2009 till 2011.
