Francelino Matuzalém is a midfielder for Genoa. He was born on 10 June 1980 in Natal, Brazil.
Matuzalém’s professional career started at Vitória where he played until 1999. During the two seasons at the club the Brazilian made only 14 appearances. In 1999 Matuzalém moved to Europe and continued his professional career playing for Bellinzona, Parma and Napoli. Matuzalém played two full seasons for Napoli with a total of 52 appearances and 2 goals and then he was transferred to Parma.
In 2001 Matuzalém continued to perform for the Italian clubs as he joined Piacenza and scored 3 goals in 28 appearances during the 2001/02 season. After the season was over Matuzalém was once again acquired by Parma and once again didn’t make a single appearance for the club as he was transferred to Brescia for the 2002/03 season totaling 30 matches. After a successful season Brescia management decided to sign the Brazilian on a permanent contract. During the 2003/04 season Francelino played for Brescia and scored 3 goals in 30 appearances.
In 2004 Matuzalém signed for Ukrainian Premier League side FC Shakhtar Donetsk. There he became a key player and appeared in every important match of the club. During 3 seasons at Shakhtar the Brazilian scored 25 goals in 68 appearances.
In 2007 Matuzalém signed a 2-year contract with Zaragoza. During 2 seasons at the Spanish club the halfback made only 14 appearances and scored mere 1 goal.
In 2008 Matuzalém joined Lazio where made 68 appearances and scored 1 goal.
Later on, in the beginning of 2013 the Brazilian moved up north to join Genoa on loan. Half a year later he signed a permanent deal.
In 1997 Francelino played for the Brazilian U-17 and scored 3 goals. In 1999 Matuzalém made 4 appearances and scored 1 goal for Brazil U-20.
