A Slovenian footballer Nejc Pečnik plays as an attacking midfielder for Red Star Belgrade. He was born on 3 January 1986 in Dravograd.
His youth career started at the academy of the local club NK Dravograd. In 2002, Nejc signed his first professional contract with Celje. He was used mostly as a substitute player for the first three seasons with the club but in the 2005/06 Pečnik was given a position in the starting lineup. He pulled off the 2007/08 season as Celje’s top scorer with 14 goals. Overall, the player made a total of 119 appearances and 21 goals during a seven-year spell at the Slovenian club.
In the summer 2008, the midfielder was sent on loan to Sparta Prague. But there he didn’t get enough playing time making only 4 appearances for the temporary team. In the summer 2009, Nejc Pečnik was scouted by the Portuguese side Nacional. The first two seasons were lined with occasional appearances. All in all, he made 37 appearances and netted 2 goals for the club.
In 2011, the footballer was loaned to Krylia Sovetov from Russia. In 2012, Pečnik moved to Sheffield Wednesday where he played until 2013. At that time he moved to Serbia and joined Red Star Belgrade.
In 2005, Nejc Pečnik got his first cap to the Slovenia U-21 team. Since 2009, he is regularly called up to the senior squad.
