Oswaldo Javier Sánchez Ibarra is a Mexican goalkeeper known for his performance for Guadalajara, Santos Laguna and the Mexico national team. Ibarra is one of the best Mexican keepers in the late 1990s and in the early 2000s.
Oswaldo was born on 21 September 1973 in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 1993 Ibarra began his football career in Atlas. He made 81 appearances for this club and became a first-choice goalkeeper. In 1996 Oswaldo decided to change the team and signed for capital club América. Three years later the keeper joined one of the strongest Mexican and North American clubs Guadalajara. During seven seasons Ibarra featured in 272 matches for this Mexican club. In 2007 Oswaldo completed a move to Santos Laguna where he soon became the club captain.
In 1996 Oswaldo Sánchez made his senior debut for the Mexico national squad winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the same year. In 2003 Oswaldo won the same tournament together with the national team. Moreover, Sánchez was voted the Best Goalkeeper of the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup.
