Paulo Renato Rebocho Ferreira is a defender from Portugal, who played for Estoril, Vitória de Setúbal, Porto and Chelsea.
He began his career with Estoril-Praia in the Portuguese second division at that time. At the beginning of 2000/01 season Paulo transferred to Vitória de Setúbal, where he played at the position of a right defender. The quality of Ferreira’s performance couldn’t be left unnoticed and the footballer attracted the attention of Jose Mourinho, the Porto club manager. The transfer cost about €2 million.
The following season the club won the Portuguese Championship and the Portuguese Cup, though the benchmark of the season was wrapping up the UEFA Cup, where Porto passed by Celtic.
In 2003 Porto lifted the UEFA Champions League Cup. In the final Ferreira played as right defender and contributed greatly to the triumph in the match against Monaco.
Ferreira signed for Chelsea at the beginning of the 2004/05 season following Jose Mourinho. He took part in 29 games of the Premier League during the debut season but had to skip the end of it due to blows, still Chelsea won their Premier League title.
In 2006/07 the Portuguese didn’t show his confident style of playing and lost first-team place. In February 2008 he did not mind changing his shirt number from 20 to 19 giving it away to his compatriot Deco.
After the season 2012/2013 Paulo retired from football.
Ferreira has been playing for the Portugal national team since 1998. In 2010 Paulo announced his resignation from the national team.
