Raphael Schäferis a Polish-born German footballer. He was born on January 30, 1979 in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. Currently he plays a keeper for FC Nürnberg.
Raphael started his youth playing career at SC Drispenstedt. In 1991, Schäfer moved to Hannover 96 youth team and at the age of 17 he joined the first squad but never made a single appearance there. He stayed in Hannover till 1998, when he decided to leave for VfB Lübeck, where he played until 2001, when the goalkeeper signed for FC Nürnberg. In March 2002, he made his Bundesliga debut. During that spell with the club he didn’t manage to become a number one keeper but nevertheless he featured in 130 games during 6 seasons.
In July 2007, the footballer transferred to VfB Stuttgart and on 10 August made his debut against Schalke 04.
In 2008, the goalkeeper returned to FC Nürnberg that had been relegated to the second Bundesliga and helped them to promote back to the top flight in 2009.
