Roy Carroll is a Northern Irish goalkeeper currently playing for the Greek giants Olympiacos. He was born on 30 September 1977 in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.
Roy embarked on his professional career at the English club Hull City in 1995. In 1997 he moved to Wigan Athletic and helped the club to win Football League Trophy in 1999. Overall, Carroll made 169 appearances in all competitions for the English club. In 2001, he enjoyed a meteoric rise signing for the English heavyweights Manchester United. The goalkeeper met with tough competition at the club, however he played 72 games with the Red Devils during a four-year spell. In between 2005 and 2009, Carroll featured for such clubs as West Ham United, Rangers and Derby County. In 2009, the Northern Irish player moved to Denmark to join Odense Boldklub for two seasons. For his 14 terrific Superliga performances Carroll was awarded the Danish Goalkeeper of the Year title in 2009. In the 2011/12 season, Roy defended the colours of OFI Crete from the Greek Superleague. In January 2012, he signed for the Greek champions Olympiacos where he plays till today. Carroll pulled off the debut season with the club as the Superleague champion and the Greek Cup winner.
In the 1998/99 season, Roy Carroll got a first taste of international action earning 11 caps to the Northern Ireland U21 squad. Since 1997, he is capped to the senior team of his country.
