Sebastián Coates is a centre back of Liverpool. He was born on 7 October 1990 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Sebastián’s youth career made its start in 2001, when he joined the Nacional academy. During eight years Coates quickly developed and became a regular of every youth team he played for. Despite his age, the footballer was about 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) tall, which helped him to perform at the centre back position.
In 2009 it was time to become a pro and Sebastián signed his first professional contract with native Nacional. During two years till 2011 Coates was a regular centre back of the club’s first team, made 55 appearances for ‘Albos’ and showed wonderful heading abilities by scoring eight goals from free kicks and corners.
In 2011 Sebastián received an offer from English Liverpool that carried out an intensive policy aiming at young and talented footballers from all over the world. The Uruguayan back accepted the offer and signed a long-term contract with the club. Sebastián was not a pivot of the first team and at the beginning of 2014 was loaned to a Uruguayan side Nacional Montevideo.
In 2009 Coates was capped ten times for the Uruguay national U-20 team. From 2011 he has been called up to represent the senior national team.
