Sergei Narubin was born on 5 December 1981. After he finished Children’s and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve, he joined FC Saturn Ramenskoye, but failed to participate in even a fixture for the club. Later he played for FC Meteor, FC Fabus and FC Dynamo Bryansk where he spent two remarkable seasons.
Sergei became the Dynamo’s first-choice goalkeeper in 2003 and was named one of the best Russian Second Division players the same year. The next season the club got the surprising promotion to the Russian First Division due to exclusion of FC Dynamo Saint Petersburg.
In 2005 the player moved to FC Alania Vladikavkaz, but made just one appearance for the club.
The goalkeeper was transferred to FC Amkar Perm in 2007, where he later became the first-team goalie in 2008 replacing Vladimir Gabulov, who moved to FC Dynamo Moscow that year. Sergei conceded no goals on his debut during the Russian Premier League fixture against the top-flight side FC Lokomotiv Moscow. At the rest 20 fixtures of the season he kept a clean sheet on 11 occasions and conceded 16 goals.
The player remained the first-team goalkeeper in 2009 and 2010, but failed to participate in all the fixtures during both of them. He managed to start only in 21 games in 2009, as the season was blighted by the injury. As for the 2010, the player was sidelined for the major part of the season by the head coach Rashid Rakhimov and as a result managed to make just 16 first-team appearances throughout the season.
Despite missing 13 games during the Russian Premier League 2011-2012 due to injuries, he is considered a key member of the first-team squad.
Narubin was named The Perm Krai Footballer of The Year in 2011.
