Sylvain Armand

A French footballer Sylvain Armand acts as a defender for Rennes. Sylvain was born on 1 August 1980 in Saint-Étienne.

Armand is a graduate of the Saint-Étienne youth academy, where his junior years were spent. In 1999, the defender was hired by Clermont, where his professional career started off.

In 2000, the footballer’s talents caught the attention of Nantes. After all the terms had been agreed, Sylvain joined the main squad. He debuted for the team on 9 September 2000 in a match with Auxerre. In 2001, the footballer won the Ligue 1 championship under the flag of Nantes.

In 2004, Armand was sold to Paris Saint-Germain. A contract was penned for a fee of $5 million. His start to life at the club can’t be referred to as to a successful one. He didn’t get a first XI place, but within some time the situation changed and the defender became a fixture in the main line-up. From 2004 to 2008, Sylvain missed only eight matches. Despite some bad times for Paris Saint-Germain, which followed in 2006, Sylvain recommended himself as a real professional. He and Jérôme Rothen formed an efficient partnership on the field.

On 17 April 2011, Armand appeared for the 319th time for PSG, which meant that he managed to overtake the legendary keeper Bernard Lama.

Aged 32, Armand joined Stade Rennes in 2013.
