Thierry Henry is a French world-class footballer born on 17 August 1977 in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. He is currently a forward of New York Red Bulls from the American Major League Soccer.
Thierry was formed in the youth ranks of such French clubs as CO Les Ulis, US Palaiseau, Viry-Châtillon and Clairefontaine. He promised well in all the youth systems and eventually was spotted by AS Monaco’s scouts in 1992. In two years, a young hopeful was promoted to the first team of Monaco and in another two years, in 1996, thanks to a string of terrific performances Henry was awarded the French Young Footballer of the Year title. In the 1996/97 season, he led his club to the French Ligue 1 trophy. The next season a promising player helped Monaco to climb up to the UEFA Champions League semi-final. During a five-year stint at the club he made a total of 105 strong performances.
In 1999, Henry moved to Italy to join the giants Juventus in Serie A. However, he was predominantly deployed on the wing, the position alien to Thierry. That became a catalyst for his rapid move to the English powerhouse Arsenal. Henry was crowned with success in the 2001/02 season when the Gunners won the Premier League 7 points clear of Liverpool and beat Chelsea 2-0 in the 2002 FA Cup final. He pulled off the season as the league’s best scorer with 32 goals. Henry led the team to the Premier League Champion title once again in the 2003/04 campaign as well as to FA Cup trophies in 2003 and 2005. During an eight-year spell at Arsenal, Thierry made a total of 174 goals in 254 appearances.
In 2007, the French footballer moved to Spanish Barcelona. Henry was integral to success during the 2008/09 season when he led the club to the UEFA Champions League title and the UEFA Super Cup trophy. He aided the club in two consecutive wins of La Liga titles in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons and put his final stamp on Barca winning the Copa del Rey and FIFA Club World Cup in 2009.
In the summer 2010, Henry joined New York Red Bulls from the MLS. The same year he won the MLS Eastern Conference with the new club.
Thierry Henry was a regular French international in between 1997 and 2010. Overall, he made a total of 123 appearances and 51 goals for the national team. Together with his squad, Henry became the FIFA World Cup champion in 1998 and FIFA Confederations Cup winner in 2003.
