Ye Weichao was born on 18 February 1989 in Guangzhou, China. The player’s football career started in Guangzhou Evergrande. Weichao was a product of its youth system, and in 2005 he began playing for different youth teams of the club. In 2005 the footballer was sent on loan to English side Bristol City where he spent a year playing for its youth squad.
In 2007 Ye started to play football at a professional level. The player was immediately farmed out to Guangdong Sunray Cave which played in the second tier. Weichao made his debut for this Chinese team in June 2007. The following season was successful for the player. The experience gained in the European club appeared to be very useful. Weichao netted 11 times and helped his team to achieve promotion to the League One.
In December 2009 Ye Weichao was recalled from his loan; however he didn’t stay too long with Guangzhou Evergrande. In March 2010 the footballer was farmed out to Guangdong Sunray Cave again. He scored 14 goals in 20 matches in the rest of the 2009/2010 season. All in all, the footballer kicked 30 goals for the club.
Ye Weichao returned to Guangzhou Evergrande in 2011. The footballer made his debut on 15 May 2011 when he came on as a substitute in the 67th minute and scored his first Super League goal. In 2011 Weichao won the Chinese Super League title together with his club.
Nowadays Ye Weichao continues to play for Guangzhou Evergrande as a striker. In 2011 the footballer gained his first cap for the China national football team. On 26 March 2011 he made his international debut against Costa Rica.
