Zhang Linpeng was born on 9 May 1989 in Jinan, China. Zhang went in for football when he was ten. In 2001 Linpeng entered the Genbao Football Academy. In 2006 Zhang Linpeng began playing professionally with Shanghai East Asia. During four years the player kicked 3 goals in 65 games for this club.
In 2011 Zhang Linpeng completed a move to Guangzhou Evergrande. The footballer made his debut for this Chinese team on 2 April 2011. At present Zhang continues his career in Guangzhou Evergrande as a defender. He has already featured in more than 35 games for this team and has scored 3 goals. Linpeng won the 2011 Chinese Super League title and the Chinese FA Super Cup together with his club.
In 2008 Zhang Linpeng played for the China national U-20 football team. He took part in 4 games and captained the team. In 2009 the footballer was capped for the China national U-23 football team where he found the net once in 6 matches.
Since 2009 Zhang Linpeng has been called up to the China national team. The player made his international debut against Jordan on 30 December 2009. He participated in the 2010 East Asian Football Championship and in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Zhang has scored 4 goals in 24 games for the senior side.
