History and achievements
Bloemfontein Celtic is a football club is South Africa, nicknamed Phunya Sele Sele, located in Bloemfontein, Free State. It was founded in 1969 and initially the club was named Mangaung United FC. In 1984 the club was bought by Petros Molemela and he changed its name into Bloemfontein Celtic but in 2001 the club faced relegation and the club was sold to Demetri Augousti, who is a retired Celtic player.
In the 2003/04 Bloemfontein Celtic won the First Division thus getting promotion to the top flight. Among team’s achievements are Mainstay Cup in 1985, the 2005 SAA Sup 8 Cup, the 2007 Telkom Charity Cup and Telkom Knockout in 2012.
Since 1999 they are supported by Sporting Clube de Portugal, who helped Bloemfontein Celtic to found the youth academy.
The team uses two stadiums, mostly Seisa Ramabodu Stadium, its capacity is 20,000, and the Free State Stadium, which they share with two rugby teams.
