Deportes Iquique is a Chilean football club from the city of Iquique founded in 1978.
The club made their first run into the Chilean Primera División as early as in 1980. They had a very fruitful decade as they regularly competed in the top flight. In 1980, the team claimed their first silverware in the shape of Copa Chile and repeated the feat in 2010. Concerning their league success, Iquique have not claimed a single Primera División yet (as of March 2013). The farthest they have reached in the Chilean top championship was the third-place finish in 1988 and 2012.
The early 2010s have been favorable for Iquique in regard to international competitions. They made two appearances in the Copa Sudamericana in 2011 and 2012 and in the 2013 season they would take part in the Copa Libertadores.
Iquique players wear entirely sky blue kits and have a blue dragon on their club emblem. The choice of color and symbol come from the main landscape of the city which is the Dragon Hill. The team play their home matches at Tierra de Campeones Stadium which can host up to 12,000 spectators.
