Oita Trinita is a Japanese football team from the city of Ōita founded in 1994.
The club showed prominent results since the early years of their existence. They won promotion to the second division after a successful 1996 season. The team gained more and more popularity and in the 2002 campaign the topped the J. League Division 2 and broke into the top flight for the first time in their history. The year 2008 was a glorious season for Oita Trinita as they recorded their best 4th place finish in J. league and claimed their first big silverware in the form of J. League Cup. However, since 2009 the team began to slide and they dropped down to the second tier where played for three years. In 2012, Oita Trinita won the J. League Division 2 promotion play-offs and won their ticket back to the top tier. However, in 2013 they were relegated again.
The team play their home matches at Ōita Bank Dome stadium, commonly known as Big Eye, which can host up to 43,250 people.
