History and achievements
South China AA is a sport association in Hong Kong with a football team under the same name. The origins of the club stem from Chinese Football Team that was established in 1904 by the Chinese students, though later the side took the name South China Football Club. The team claimed its first title in 1917 winning Far Eastern Games, the feat that was repeated two years later.
For most of its history South China AA held all-Chinese players police yet after the introduction of the professional football in the 1980s the team decided to change the strategy allowing foreigners in the squad.
The season 2006/2007 is the most glorious in the team’s history with South China AA winning the title of the league, Hong Kong FA Cup and the Hong Kong Senior Shield. The campaign also marked a start of the most successful spell with three consecutive top flight trophies. Overall the club’s history counts 40 titles of the First division League, 30 Senior Shields, 9 FA Cups and 2 League Cups.
Recent rise of the team is connected with the chairman Steven Lo who managed to build a modern and progressive club.
The highest the club progressed in the AFC Cup was the semi-final of the 2009/2010 season.
The most famous nicknames of the team are “Shaolin Temple” and “Caroliners”.The home ground of the club is Hong Kong Stadium that sits up to 40, 000.
