Willem II Tilburg or Willem II is a Dutch football club, established in 1896. Initially it was named Tilburgia but in 1989 it was renamed after Dutch king William II of the Netherlands, Willem II. They won National Football League Championship in 1916.
The professional Dutch league was founded in 1954/55 and in 1952 and 1955 Willem II won the league title. In 1944 and 1963 the team won the KNVB Cup.
In 1963 the team competed in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup but were eliminated by Manchester United in the first round. In 1998/99 they played in the UEFA Cup, where in the first round they defeated Dinamo Tbilisi 6-0 on aggregate and were eliminated by Real Betis 4-1 on aggregate in the second round. In 1999 Willem II finished the league runners-up and got a chance to play in the UEFA Champions League, but in the first group stage were knocked out.
In 2004 the team was second in the domestic cup tournament and competed in the UEFA Cup but were eliminated by AS Monaco in the first round, losing 1-5 on aggregate.
At the end of the 2010/11 season Willem II faced relegation from the Eredivisie, though their previous Eerste divisie season was in 1987. During the next two years Willem II went up and down again.
Koning Willem II Stadion in Tilburg has a capacity of 14,637.
