Zirka Kirovohrad is a football club in Ukraine, named after the city it is located in. It was founded in 1911and initially had the name Elvorti Yelizavetgrad but in 1917 the team was dropped. Two new teams were formed in 1922 based on Elvorti Yelizavetgrad. Those teams were Chervona Zirka and Chervony Profintern. Since then Chervona Zirka changed its name several times and in 1958 in got the name Zvezda Kirovograd and it entered Soviet league, Class B.
The team began to play in the fourth tier (Ukrainian Transitional League) after dissolution of USSR and in 1992 they advanced to the Second Division (third tier). In 1993/94 the team won promotion to the First Division, in 1994/95 they advanced to the Premier League for the first time. After they dropped out in 1999/2000 they spent three seasons in the First league, but advanced in 2002/03.One season they played in the top flight and then were relegated again.
In 2006 they faced financial problems and lost its professional status, in 2007 they began to compete in amateur tournaments. In 2008 Olimpik Kirovohrad was renamed to Zirka Kirovohrad entered the Ukrainian First League.
