Oleh Protasov is a former Ukrainian football player who was born on 4 February 1964 in Dnipropetrovsk. He started his football career at the age of eight when he joined the local side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Protasov went through the ranks of the youth academy of the club and in 1981 made his debut for the first team. His spell in the side lasted for six years and he featured in 145 appearances and netted 95 goals.
In 1987 the striker signed a deal with Dynamo Kyiv where he subsequently two times claimed the title of the Soviet Championship and was named Soviet Footballer of the Year in 1987.
In 1990 the player moved to the Greek side Olympiacos Piraeus where he stayed for four years and made 83 appearances scoring 48 goals. From 1994 to 2000 Protasov had spells at such clubs at such clubs as Gamba Osaka,Veria, Proodeftiki and Panelefsiniakos.
Protasov collected 68 caps for the national team of the Soviet Union and featured in one game of the national team of Ukraine.
After finishing his playing career the Ukrainian went into coaching and in 2002 became the manager of Olympiacos Piraeus. He led the side to the title of the Greek league in 2005.Protasov worked with such teams as AEL Limassol, Steaua Bucureşti, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Kuban Krasnodar, Iraklis Thessaloniki, Rostov and Astana.
In 2012 he was introduced as Dinamo Minsk head coach but was sacked a couple of months later.
