Francisco Herrera Lorenzo – or simply Paco Herrera – is a former Spanish footballer and currently a coach. Paco was born in Barcelona on December 2, 1953.
Herrera began his football career at the age of 18 in the local Sabadell which generally played in La Segunda. After two seasons with the team, he left for Sporting de Gijón – a La Liga club. Later, he played for Levante and Badajoz. When 32, the footballer finished his playing career in the latter.
However, Paco did not leave Badajoz for good – he became a youth squad coach instead and later was promoted to assistant coach of the main squad. Afterwards, Herrera was in charge of several other Spanish clubs: Numancia, Merida, Albacete, Poli Ejido and Recreativo. In 2004, Rafael Benítez invited Paco to Liverpool FC as the club’s head scout.
Back home he was appointed to the prestigious position of RCD Espanyol director. After three seasons with the club Paco joined Castellón and later Villareal B.
On June 20, 2010, Herrera signed a contract with Celta de Vigo (at that time – a La Segunda club) and guided the team to La Liga. In 2013 the coach was dismissed with the squad struggling to remain in the top-flight.
In the summer 2013 he was offered a job at Real Zaragoza.
