Rıza Çalımbay is a retired Turkish midfielder and a manager. He was born on 2 February 1963 in Sivas, Turkey.
Rıza began his professional career at Beşiktaş in 1980. Though he sparked interest of many European clubs like Olympique Marseille, Çalımbay was a stalwart of Beşiktaş and played for the club for 16 years before retirement in 1996. Overall, he made a total of 42 goals in 494 appearances for the side during 16-year tenure. He also earned 51 caps to the Turkey national team since 1980 till 1992.
Çalımbay took up coaching when he was appointed the head coach of Göztepe in 2001. In the 2002/03 season, he coached Denizlispor leading the club to the latter stages of the UEFA Cup. After that Çalımbay was at the helm of Çaykur Rizespor and in 2005 took charge over Beşiktaş after Vicente Del Bosque. Riza made a good start at the team making several changes in their formation. That helped Beşiktaş to defeat their bitterest rivals Fenerbahçe SK and clinch the UEFA Cup victories over FC Vaduz and Malmö FF already during the first weeks of Riza’s coaching. Since November 2005 till 2013, Rıza Çalımbay coached such teams as Ankaraspor, Çaykur Rizespor, Eskişehirspor and Sivasspor. In 2013 he was appointed as a coach of newly promoted outfit Caykur Rizespor.
