Korea DPR (The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) national football team is ruled by the DPR Korea Football Association. The team qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 1966 and reached the quarterfinals, where they were beaten by Portugal 3-5. Their following success came in the Summer Olympic Games in 1976, when the North Korea advanced to the quarterfinals but there they lost against Poland 0-5.
In 2010 the team finished second in its group during the Asian qualification. The 2010 World Cup was their second appearance in the major tournament. They were seeded in one group with Brazil, Portugal and Côte d’Ivoire, but lost to all of them and finished in the bottom of the group.
In 2010 and 2012 the North Korea national team won AFC Challenge Cup titles, in 1980, 1992 and 2011 they qualified for the AFC Asian Cup.
