Aleksei Sapogov was born on 2 April 1988 in the Russian city Leninsk-Kuznetsky.
Sapogov got his primary football education at FC Lokomotiv Moscow youth football academy. The professional career of the footballer started at the reserve squad of FC Torpedo Moscow in 2006.
In between 2007 and 2012, the striker represented such Russian Second Division clubs as FC Zelenograd, FC Volga Tver and FC Gornyak Uchaly. In the 2011/2012 season, the player scored 17 goals in 33 appearances for FC Gornyak and became the second high-scoring player of the Ural-Povolzhye zone.
In 2012 the forward joined FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod. Aleksei made his official first-team debut on 21 July 2012 in a game against FC Dynamo Moscow and scored his first Russian Premier League goal one week later.
Since 2012, Aleksei Sapogov is called up to the Russia-2 national team.
