Alex McCarthy is a goalkeeper of Reading. He was born on 3 December 1989 in Guildford, England.
Alex graduated from the academy of Reading in 2007 and became a player of the main squad. The footballer was let on the pitch with the starting team only in several games so that the head coach could see the keeper in action and decide on his nearest future. However, McCarthy got an opportunity to play only in 2007 on loan at Woking, where he spent six months and featured only in one match. After the end of his spell in January 2008, Alex completed a new loan move, this time to Cambridge United, and made one appearance as well.
In the summer 2008, the footballer was sent on loan to Team Bath, where he did not take part in any games at all. Almost the same situation was in Aldershot Town and McCarthy managed to feature in four matches. In the summer 2009, Alex penned a loan deal with Yeovil Town and got an opportunity to perform as a first-choice goalkeeper for the first time in his career. The footballer took part in 44 games for the temporary team during one season. From the summer 2010 till the summer 2012, McCarthy played for Brentford, Leeds and Ipswich Town, and made total 19 appearances.
From 2010 till 2011, Alex was capped three times for the England national U-21 team.
