Arne Friedrich is a German footballer who currently plays as a defender for Chicago Fire.
In between 1985 and 1999, he groomed at FC Bad Oeynhausen, TuS Lohe, SC Herford and FC Gütersloh youth systems. In the 1999/2000 season, Arne reached the first team of SC Verl, however, his career really took off at Arminia Bielefeld where he made a string of good performances as a starter.
In 2002, Friedrich signed for Hertha BSC where he developed his game impressively. During his debut season with the Berlin club, Arne won the German League Cup. In the 2004/05 season, he took over the captain’s armband and remained at the helm of the team for the rest of his spell with Hertha. Overall, a highly promising defender made a total of 231 appearances for the club in between 2002 and 2010. After the 2010/11 season spell at VfL Wolfsburg, Friedrich signed for the American side Chicago Fire in March 2012.
From 2002 till 2011, Arne Friedrich was called up to the Germany national team 82 times. He featured in the UEFA Euro 2004 and 2008, and in the World Cup 2006 and 2010 editions.
