Brynjar Gunnarsson is a midfielder of KR Reyljavik. He was born on 16 October 1975 in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Brynjar began to try his hand at football in 1995, when he penned a senior contract with KR Reykjavík after graduating from its academy. During two years and a half from the summer 1995 till January 1998, the footballer was the pivot of the central midfield and found the net one time in 50 matches from the position of a defensive midfielder.
At the beginning of 1998, Gunnarsson moved to Vålerenga, but featured only in four matches before going on loan to Moss, where he made five appearances and netted two goals. In 1999 Brynjar transferred to Örgryte IS and scored one goal in 24 games for the new club before finalizing a deal with Stoke City. That was England where the footballer’s career went forward at a steady gait, as he featured in 131 matches and amassed 15 goals for ‘The Potters’.
In 2003 Gunnarsson penned a contract with Nottingham Forest, where he performed for a part of the season before tying up a loan deal with his previous club, Stoke City. The midfielder made 13 appearances during six years and moved to Watford in 2004. Brynjar took part in 36 games and fired three goals for the new club till 2005, when English side Reading secured the services of the footballer on permanent basis. From 2005 till 2013, the Icelandic player kicked nine goals in 142 matches for ‘The Royals’.
In 2013 the experienced midfielder returned to his homeland and joined KR club from Reykjavik.
From 1993 till 1997, Gunnarsson was capped 19 times and chipped in four goals for the Iceland national U-19 and U-21 squads. From 1997 till 2009, he took part in 74 games and contributed four goals for the senior national team.
