Fabian Giefer is a German goalie who defends the colours of Fortuna Düsseldorf. He was born on 17 May 1990 in Adenau, West Germany.
Fabian trained at 1. FC Oberahr a TuRa Lommersdorf when he was a teenager, later joining Bayer Leverkusen. From 2003 to 2007 the goalie played for the youth team, subsequently signing a professional contract with the club.
During the 2007–2009 spell Giefer made 43 appearances for the reserves. In 2009 he was promoted to the first team. On 6 November 2009 Fabian made his Bundesliga debut in the fixture between Bayer and Eintracht. He managed to keep a clean sheet as the match ended 4-0. On December 1, 2010 Giefer debuted in the UEFA Europa League match between Bayer and Rosenborg, replacing René Adler, Bayer’s first-choice goalkeeper. But it was extremely difficult for the young goalie to establish himself as a regular starter at Bayer, because of tough competition for a place in the starting lineup.
In 2012 Fabian Giefer signed a two-year deal with Fortuna Düsseldorf.
