Gilles Sunu is a striker of Lorient. He also plays for the French national U-21 team.
His career started off at the academy of Châteauroux, Indre. In July 2007, a move to Arsenal was made, where he was groomed for 4 years. The first half of the 2009/2010 season was spent with the reserves of the club. That season appeared to be quite fruitful for the player; he scored 4 goals in nine games. He made his debut in a match against West Bromwich Albion in a League Cup. It happened on 22 September 2009. His first Champions League appearance was made on 9 December 2009 in a game with Olympiacos.
The second half of the season Gilles served a loan for Derby County. He stayed with the club up till the end of the 2009/2010 season. His debut took place in a match with Swansea City; his first goal for the temporary team was netted to Reading on 10 March 2010. Before coming back to Arsenal, he managed to make 9 appearances. His returning to the parent club happened earlier than it had been planned. The player got injured in a match against Bristol City.
He was kept away from the field during 2 months through the cartilage injury in his knee crippled in the final of the 2010 UEFA Championship. After recovering, Sunu was welcomed back to the reserves of Arsenal. He made no appearances until the end of September, when he played against Blackpool. Over the course of the season, he managed to make eight appearances.
For the remainder of the 2010/2011, the footballer moved to Lorient. A match against Caen turned to become Gilles’s debut for the club. When the spell was coming to an end, the management of the temporary club offered him a contract on permanent basis. But the head coach of Arsenal was waiting for the defender to come back. After hesitating in his choice, Sunu agreed to pen a four-year contract with Lorient. His first appearance as a sub for the French club was made in a match against Sochaux on 31 August 2011. He scored his debut goal to Ajaccio on 6 November 2011. That goal helped to beat Lorient’s opponent.
Gilles is one of the French youth internationals. He has been capped for different age groups: from the U-17 to the U-21 squads. In the 2008/2009 season, he served as the captain of the U-19 team.
