Igor Smolnikov is a right back playing for FC Zenit St.Petersburg. He was born on 8 August 1988 in Kamensk-Uralsky, Russia.
Igor Smolnikov played for the youth teams of FC Lokomotiv Moscow and FC Torpedo Moscow.
He played for the national team at the UEFA U-19 Championship in 2007. Igor Smolnikov made his debut for Torpedo Moscow senior team in 2006. In the 2006/07 season Igor made 30 First Division appearances and netted 2 goals.
In 2008 Smolnikov returned to his alma mater Lokomotiv Moscow and played for the reserves. On 23 July 2008 Igor made his debut for the first team. From 2009 to 2012 he was loaned to Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast, Chita, Zhemchuzhina-Sochi and Rostov, totaling 70 appearances and 4 goals. In 2012 the defender was purchased by FC Krasnodar but only played for one season before switching for Zenit St.Petersburg.
Since 2012 Igor Smolnikov is called up to Russia-2.
