Ilya Abayev is a Russian goalkeeper born on 2 August 1981.
He started playing football in his childhood, when entered Chertanovo Football School. In 1999 Abayev started to play for the youth squad of FC Torpedo Moscow and took part in the reserve team tournament. Altogether he took part in 145 matches during the period from 1999 to 2004.
Abayev made his first-team debut for FC Torpedo Moscow in March 2004, when he came off the bench in a game against FC Rostov. In 2006, Abayev moved on loan to FC Anzhi Makhachkala. After two successful seasons at the temporary club he joined Anzhi on a permanent basis in 2009 helping them to get a promotion to the Russian Premier League for the 2010 season.
In December 2010 the player moved to FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod and played for the club for two years.
In the summer 2013 he signed a contract with Lokomotiv Moscow as an emergency replacement for injured Guilherme.
At the international level, the player was once called up to join the Russia-2 national team for a game against the Belarus Olympic squad.
