José Manuel Pinto is a goalkeeper, born on November 8, 1975 in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain.
Jose’s youth career featured the Safa San Luis academy where he studied during several years to be later spotted by Real Betis selectors.
In 1994, José was offered to become a professional player at Real Betis. The young goalkeeper signed a four-year contract with the club but got no place in the first team which chose the player on rare occasions. José began to play for Betis B, which lasted for four years till 1998. Over the four seasons he played in 68 matches for the reserve team without making it to the club’s key goalkeeper.
In 1998, he joined the club’s first team only to play in a single match.
In 1998, Pinto accepted an offer from another Spanish club (RC Celta de Vigo) where he was promised to be number one. José Manuel made a decision to join RC Celta de Vigo as he had few ties with his native club. He signed a long-term contract and played in the club till 2008. Over the ten seasons he became the club’s first goalkeeper having played in 181 matches.
In January 2008, FC Barcelona urgently searched for a third goalkeeper. He was to be an experienced one and Pinto was a perfect choice for the Catalan club. Having joined the club on a six-month loan, Pinto played three matches for FC Barcelona. The loan over, the Catalan club made a decision to leave the player in their team on a permanent basis and signed a contract according to which he was FC Barcelona’s second goalkeeper until 2014.
