Maik Taylor is a retired goalkeeper. He was born on 4 September 1971 in Hildesheim, Germany.
Maik’s professional career took off in Petersfield Town in the late 1980s. However, the footballer did not stay with his first club for too long and moved to Basingstoke Town, where he performed till 1992.
In 1992, Taylor put pen to paper of a contract with Farnborough Town, which lodged a tempting bid for the keeper. Maik made 80 appearances for the team during three years and sealed a deal with Barnet, where he took part in 70 fixtures during one season and a half. In 1997, the footballer transferred to Southampton, but featured only in 18 games for ‘The Saints’ before completing a move to London side Fulham, where he made 189 appearances during seven years.
In 2003, Taylor went on loan to Birmingham City and took part in 27 matches for the club during one year. His performance won the hearts of fans and coaching staff and earned him a permanent contract with ‘Blues’. The goalie featured in 187 fixtures for the team during seven seasons.
In the summer 2011, Leeds United secured Maik’s services, but the footballer failed to come on the pitch for ‘The Peacocks’ till March 2012, when the management decided to loan him out to Millwall. Taylor made ten appearances for ‘The Lions’ during the second half of the 2011/2012 season and penned a permanent contract with the club in May the same year.
The 42-year old keeper retired at the end of 2012/2013 campaign.
From 1999 till 2011, the keeper was capped 88 times for the Northern Ireland national squad.
