Mario Gomez Garcia was born on July 10, 1989 in Riedlingen, Germany. He is a striker of Fiorentina.
At the start of his career Mario trained at different German academies. For some years he was a trainee and a player of SV Unlingen and FV Bad Saulgau youth teams. In 1999 Gomez underwent trials at SSV Ulm 1846 and was invited to the club’s academy. Mario played in the youth team for two years, being one of its best apprentices. In 2001 he drew the attention of VfB Stuttgart scouts who took advantage of the moment to sign the young whizz. For two years Gómez had been playing for the youth team until he was asked to join the first team in 2003.
In 2003 Mario signed his first professional contract with VfB Stuttgart. The footballer was first sent to the reserve team, where he spent two years. Till the year 2005 Gomez amassed 21 goals in 43 appearances for VfB Stuttgart II. After two successful years, the head coach made a decision to include Mario in the first team. Gomez became a regular starter and managed to score in most matches, which couldn’t but make the management of the club happy, and particularly the head coach. From 2005/06 season Mario was the key forward in the club, netting 63 goals in 121 appearances for 4 years.
In 2009 Gómez became a transfer target of Bayern Munich. The footballer accepted the club’s offer and signed a long-term contract with Bayern. From 2009 to 2013 Mario Gómez scored 75 goals in 115 matches for the club.
After winning the treble in the season 2012/2013 Bayern Munich was trasforming and Mario Gomez had to leave the club. Fiorentina were happy to offer a contract to the German goal machine.
From 2001 till 2006 Mario was capped for all German youth national teams from age 17 to 21, appearing in 62 matches and scoring 18 goals. From 2007 he is a player of the German national team, where he has played 58 games and made 25 goals.
