When 9 years old, Mario Götze left Bayern for Dortmund and immediately began showing his excellent dribbling skills.
The midfielder played his first Bundesliga match on 21 November 2009, appearing on the pitch in the 88th minute as a substitute. In March 2012, Götze extended the contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2016 but in April 2013 it was announced that Mario would join bitter rivals Bayern at the end of the season for a €37m fee. Götze has become the highest paid player in Germany at the age of 20.
Mario represented Germany at different youth levels. He quickly became the pivot of the Germany U-17 team. The play of this very squad was practically ‘tailored’ to Götze’s style. The footballer took part in 13 team’s matches, managed to score 5 times and made 7 goal assists.
On 17 November 2010 Mario received his first call-up from the Germany national team to play in a match versus Sweden. That day he appeared on the pitch as a substitute in the 78th minute. In 2011 Götze netted his first goal in a 3-2 win against Brazil. At 19 years old Mario became the youngest goalscorer of the Bundesteam.
On 13 July 2014 Gotze scored the extra-time winner against Argentina in the World Cup final, thus securing the fourth title for his country.
