Mladen Petrić began his career by joining FC Neuenhof, which he left in 1996 for Baden. The new club offered Mladen his first senior contract in 1998. A year later, in 1999, Petrić transferred to famous Zürich side Grasshopper.
He performed for the Swiss club during five seasons before accepting an offer of Basel. A lot of fans did not approve of his transfer, which entailed a wave of resentment. That could also be explained by the fact the footballer publicly burned Basel scarf, because the club is the main rival of Grasshopper. However, Mladen failed to reject an offer for €3 million and signed a four-year-contract.
He also managed to play for such teams as Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV before joining Fulham in 2012.
After one year with The Cottagers the Croatian was released and joined West Ham United as a free agent.
In January 2014 the player joined a Greek side Panathinaikos.
In 2001 the forward was invited to the Croatia national team by Mirko Jozić. In November the same year he made his international début in the match against South Korea.
