Paddy McCarthy is a defender of Crystal Palace. He was born on 31 May 1983 in Dublin, Ireland.
In 2000, Paddy joined the academy of Manchester City and spent two years there training with the junior squad of the club. It took the footballer two years to get fully ready for a professional start.
In 2002, McCarthy put pen to paper of a senior contract with ‘The Citizens’, but went on loan to Boston United at once. The defender made 12 appearances for the team during six months and sealed a temporary deal with Notts County, where he featured in six games during half a year as well.
In 2005, Paddy penned a permanent contract with Leicester City and clinched a regular spot in the starting line-up at once, which helped him to keep amazingly fit and net three goals in 72 fixtures for ‘The Foxes’ during two seasons.
In the summer 2007, the footballer completed a move to Charlton Athletic and fired two goals in 29 matches for the new club during one year. In the summer 2008, McCarthy transferred to Crystal Palace and became the pivot, who earned the right to wear a captain’s armband and found the net six times in 133 games for ‘The Glaziers’ as of February 2013.
From 1999 till 2004, the defender took part in 16 matches and kicked one goal for the Republic of Ireland national U-16 and U-21 squads. In 2006, Paddy was capped one time for the Republic of Ireland B.
