Roman Sharonov is a right back for Rubin Kazan. He was born on 8 September, 1976 in Moscow. He is a graduate of Lokomotiv Moscow football academy. From 1993 to 1997 Roman played for Lokomotiv’s second squad with a total of 118 appearances and 1 goal.
In 1997 Sharonov moved to China to play for modest Shanghai Fubao FC, but didn’t stay there for long and returned to Russia to play for FC Metallurg Krasnoyarsk. By 1999 Roman made 75 appearances and scored 5 goals for the club. In 1999 Sharonov joined Rubin Kazan and 4 seasons later, together with his club, was promoted to Premier League.
In Premier League things went well for Rubin as in 2003 they won bronze medal of the Russian Championship. In the following 2005/06 season Rubin sold the defender to Terek Grozny. The spell didn’t last long though as Terek was relegated to First Division. After Terek there was an unsuccessful spell with Shinnik Yaroslavl, after which Roman returned to Rubin. Sharonov’s debut match for Rubin in 2008 was a success as he managed to score the winning goal against Lokomotiv Moscow. As part of Rubin, the defender managed to win the Russian Premier League. The defender is twofold Russian champion (2008 and 2009), and bronze medalist of Russian Premier League 2003.
Before Euro 2004 Georgi Yartsev, former head coach of Russian national team, unexpectedly began to invite Roman Sharonov to train with the team. Sharonov debuted for the national team on 31 March, 2004, in a match against Bulgaria. Since 2004 Roman Sharonov won 8 caps for Russia.
