Ryan Giggs is a retired midfielder of Manchester United. He was born on 29 November 1973 in Cardiff, Wales.
His youth career began in 1985, when Ryan joined the Manchester City academy. He had spent two years there before moving to the academy of the other Manchester club. In 1987 Giggs was invited to the Manchester United youth system and asked to play for the youth team. Aspired to get a place in the first team with time, Ryan tried hard on improving his performance for 4 years from 1987 till 1991.
In 1991 the career of one of Manchester United legends began. Giggs signed a contract with the club and joined the first team. At the beginning Alex Ferguson, who had already been the club manager, gave Giggs few starts, but the young player was sure of his potential; his talent and skills made him a regular in rather short time. He is one of the most respected football players in football society staying in one club for the entire career. His professional approach enabled him to keep performing on the highest level till the age of 40 and remain the player of paramount importance to Manchester United and model for all young mancunians. He was selected as Great Britain Olympic football team captain for the games in London.
Having played in 963 games for the club, Giggs retired from playing at the end of 2013/2014 and became an assistant manager to Louis Van Gaal.
From 1989 till 1990 Ryan was invited to the Wales national U18 and U21 teams and netted five goals. From 1991 till 2007 Giggs played 64 games for the Wales national team, contributing 12 goals.
