As a junior footballer Sebastian started his career at SKV Hähnlein and kept it going in FC Alsbach, Viktoria Griesheim, and SV Darmstadt 98. And in 2005 he joined Kickers Offenbach which awarded him a senior contract in 2008. In this club he made 4 substitute appearances.
In 2010 he signed an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt, which is his place of employment till 2014. On January 21, 2011 in the 19th Bundesliga round Sebastian Rode experienced his first appearance in the kit of his new team. That game ended with the score 0-1 defeat to Hamburger SV. On April 23, 2011 Rode scored his debut goal in the home match against FC Bayern München, when Sebastian’s distant finish began the score and the game ended with a 1-1 scoreline. In the season of 2010/2011 the importance of his role for the club increased significantly and he had to stay in the squad despite all the offers from other outfits. Still, in the summer 2014 Rode completed a move to Bayern Munich.
On the international arena Rode made his debut in 2007 when he was capped for the U-18 national squad. That game versus Turkey ended in a 1-1 tie. A year later he joined the U-19 international team, whereupon in several months he scored his first goal in his career of a national team player. Rode also participated in U-20 and U-21 national teams.
