Stéphane Sessègnon is a midfielder of West Bromwich Albion. He was born on 1 June 1984 in Allahé, Benin.
In 2003 Stéphane ended his youth career in Requins de l’Atlantique after moving to the main team of the club. The footballer made only two appearances during his début season, but managed to draw the attention of various squads, including non-African ones as well.
In 2004 Sessègnon joined Créteil on a two-year deal. His spell with the new club was very fruitful, because the midfielder clinched a place in the starting line-up and became a regular. The footballer featured in 68 games and netted ten goals during two years, successfully adapting to the position of an attacking midfielder.
In 2006 Stéphane reached the new level of his professionalism after joining French side Le Mans, which is rather prestigious in France. Sessègnon performed for the club during two years as well and won the fan’s hearts by taking part in 61 matches and firing six goals.
In 2008 the footballer completed a move to Paris side PSG, where he played during three years. Stéphane managed to confirm his status of the confident and skilled attacking midfielder by scoring eight goals in 77 games. English side Sunderland secured Sessègnon’s services in the summer 2011 and made him the pivot of the midfield. The player made total 97 appearances and frustrated goalkeepers of various rivals of ‘The Black Cats’ 18 times. In 2013 he switched for West Bromwich Albion.
From 2004, Stéphane has been capped 48 times and contributed 9 goals for the Benin national squad.
